My name’s David Gurvis and I’m the PROCECS Product Manager for the PROCECS Division of Effective Computer Solutions (ECS). In this blog, I want to tell you about the story behind the name. The word PROCECS is obviously a play on words utilizing the words PROCECS and ECS, but more importantly it embodies a philosophy that’s embedded here at ECS. Allow me to explain…

My first experience of business was as a pre-teen working for my father. He bought a TRS-80 desktop microcomputer (yes, it was a long time ago) to help him run his business, and he had zero idea of what to do with it other than turn it on. I taught myself BASIC and VisiCalc (a precursor to Excel), and was soon writing programs to automate various tasks within his business. Programming was a fun hobby, but not something I was interested in as a career. I wanted to run businesses like my father, so I studied for an accounting degree and got my CPA. Ironically, I downplayed both of those through most of my career.

Soon after starting my first job out of college, it became clear that computers were gradually becoming part of everyday business. Although I didn’t want to program, I realized that by applying some of these skills I could do my job in literally 20% of the time. The idea of getting paid for 100% of the work while working 20% of the time sounded good… although inevitably this led to me taking on more work! At the time, I thought about the potential impacts if everyone’s productivity increased massively rather than in increments. For better and worse, this is exactly what has happened in the world of business since those early years.

Technology has changed the way we process information. We’re now able to capture and store vast amounts of data, automate processes, and provide previously unknown insights into our businesses.  But there’s a catch… we’re literally drowning in information and paralyzed in our processes. I see this everywhere and at every level of an organization: C-suite executives, managers, and staff are overwhelmed. Some people hope with blind faith that the next piece of software – most likely coded by programmers with little to no knowledge of their business – will fix this problem. Yet, far too often it’s destined to fall woefully short of its promise, and at the same time be way over the organization’s budget and behind schedule.

The PROCECS philosophy, however, is to use technology to increase productivity, effectively process vast amounts of information, and ultimately disconnect and spend time with people without the distraction of computers. Time that’s better spent engaging with customers, vendors, and employees.  Data becomes the organization’s “shared source of truth”, providing insights that empower the organization rather than holding it back.

The PROCECS Division was established with this as its mission. It comprises Advisory Services and Products, and while they can operate separately, they’re designed to work together to provide a comprehensive solution.

PROCECS’ Advisory Services team is composed of highly experienced consultants who have a deep understanding of how technology can increase productivity. They work with you to understand your unique business needs and objectives. They help you define your goals, and develop and implement a comprehensive solution that will increase productivity and achieve your desired results.

PROCECS’ Products are a suite of software tools designed to increase productivity. They include business intelligence tools, inventory management, and advanced service capabilities – all designed to work together, providing a complete solution that will help you manage your business more effectively and become more productive.

So why PROCECS?

It’s a combination of three things… technology, process, and connecting people.

In my upcoming PROCECS blog series, I’ll dive deeper into the following topics and more:

  • Why Inventory Management Should Immediately Become Your #1 Strategic Objective
  • Why Service Software Without Comprehensive Inventory Management Should be a Non-Starter
  • Business Intelligence: Leveraging Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • A Service Contract Guide: Turn a Loss Leader into a Profitable Strategic Advantage
  • What Keeps You Up at Night:  Managing Consignment and Loaner Inventory
